At this point, in the lovely month in May, efforts are being turned toward tracks for a single for Everything Is Chemical Virtual 7″ series. The concept of bringing the music to the live arena has been in thoughts recently as well. More to come on that.

YOUINDIE.COM REVIEWS “NO LONGER STRANGER”

A review of No Longer Stranger by Tim Anderl of Youindie.com:

No Longer Stranger, our first introduction to the electro post-goth/punk output of Soft Riot, aka Jack Duckworth (Savage Furs, A Luna Red, Radio Berlin, etc.) is an exercise in spooky aesthetics that sets its hazy mood with dark drones, throbbing electronic rhythms, and dread-dripping soundscapes.  This is really no surprise since Duckworth pieced this collection together in his new home in East London, a local with ties to Throbbing Gristle and Jack The Ripper.  “Holding Cash In Fields of Ash” is a chilling launchpad with a steady pulse of minimalist electronics.  The bellowing, affected vocals  and electro percussion of “Your Strange New Career” is tried and true panic attack inducing machine music.  “Tragic Magic” has a rhythm-oriented backbone that gives it a sleazy swing.  The creepy synth swells make it another distended, and disturbing banger.  Duckworth also reinterprets Hoover’s “Electrolux” (from The Lurid Traversal of Route 7) giving it a savage pulse that draws it into a black hole of electronic isolation never realized by the original.  If you’re looking for something to listen to in the dark, this is definitely not it.  If you’re looking for inspired electronic music that will give you the creeps, this is a keeper.

(Recommended For Fans Of: Savage Furs, Peter Murphy, Throbbing Gristle, spooky shit)

NO LONGER STRANGER 6 Song EP

Well isn’t this something. A Soft Riot update. After a few years of on and off activity while lots of energy was poured into other things an unexpected train of thought struck me about a month ago to finish up and complete a bunch of half finished tracks built over the last two years that were worked on in late night random bursts. Soft Riot is a project that occurs in a certain mindset — late nights, no-one around, mental vortexes — and that time is now.

“No Longer Stranger” is a collection of six tracks to be released on the Vancouver/Montreal (Canada) label Panospria at the waking moments of 2011. This release is out now on Panospria.  It’s a free download so get it here. In the meantime, two tracks from this release are featured in the player. Also check out SAVAGE FURS, another project JJD is involved in and will be putting out a release very soon (details to come). Thank you for your time.
